Annual Meeting for 2013 and CLE on TI:GER program

The annual meeting of the Technology Law Section was held on June 12, 2013.

A brief business session was held, including election of the slate of officers for the 2013-14 Bar year; it was followed by a presentation on the TI:GER program, a collaborative program of Emory Law and Georgia Tech.

Our speakers included Emory's TI:GER program director, Prof. Anne Rector, and TI:GER student team members Adam Boger, JD ’13 & PhD (Case Western), and Alex Zavorski, MBA (Georgia Tech 2013). They discussed the TI:GER program and provided a demonstrative presentation about the TI:GER team's work to help commercialize an innovative medical device.

TI:GER, short for "Technological Innovation: Generating Economic Results," is an interdisciplinary program that joins Emory Law students with Georgia Tech MBA and PhD students to solve technology commercialization problems. The student team won the 2013 Georgia Tech Business Plan competition for its GoNow bladder control technology.

This event was gracious hosted by Morris, Manning and Martin.

CLE Event: Mobile Privacy Best Practices

On May 2, 2013 we had an event on Mobile Privacy Best Practices, presented by Karl Broder of Troutman Sanders, LLP. This program provided 1 hour of CLE.

In February 2013, the FTC released its long-awaited guidelines on “Mobile Privacy Disclosures”. Just a month before, the California Attorney General issued its “Privacy On The Go” report concerning mobile privacy and related issues. Both reports highlight the need for companies to stay abreast of key developments concerning mobile privacy as the use of mobile apps proliferate. Karl's presentation focused on an overview of these recent developments and other best practices concerning mobile privacy.

Karl Broder is an attorney with Troutman Sanders, LLP in Atlanta and practices as part of his firm’s Information Management Services Team and Financial Services Litigation Practice Group. In these roles, he regularly advises clients on data management, security, privacy matters and stays abreast of related legal developments.

This event was graciously hosted by Smith, Gambrell & Russell.
